covid-19 response

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart

    and lean not on your own understanding;

  in all your ways submit to him,

    and he will make your paths straight.” - Proverbs 3:5-6

Hello Aley Friends!

We are certainly living in a new world with a large amount of unknowns and change. I trust you are doing well and even though we have not been able to meet in person, I hope you have been able to worship with us and connect to friends as well as family in the virtual world. I know it has been quite a change, but I also remember that, Emmanuel, God is with us!

The Aley Church Lay leadership and the pastors have collaborated together to carefully move forward preparing to return to in person gatherings at Aley UMC. We have spent time in prayer seeking the guidance from the Holy Spirit. We have read many articles and guidelines from many church resources as well as following the leadership of our Episcopal leader, Bishop Gregory V. Palmer. We are following the guidance of the CDC as well as the recommendations of Governor DeWine. Our plan has been discussed and refined by three different groups and has been affirmed by a well respected church member who is on the front lines of battling the COVID-19 virus. This Plan has been created with the understanding that everything can change tomorrow. It is flexible and adaptable to continue to care for the best interest of the Aley Church community of faith. We have done our best to provide you with what we believe is a God driven plan of return with the well being of the Aley Church community as our goal.

We are starting with opening our space for internal small groups to gather and meet together. There was much discussion on how we may open worship with modified and smaller gatherings of worshipers. In discussing this among the leadership group, it was stated by a long-time church member that they believe corporate worship should not gather until ALL are welcome to safely and freely gather together. The question was posed, “Who do we send away and who is willing to be the person to tell someone that they are not welcome here?” This guided much of our discussion in developing our re-opening plan.

Included in this letter are the guidelines and procedures of how we will work to properly and safely gather together while aiming for the return of ALL to worship at Aley UMC. Our small-opening date is June 1, 2020 and sign up may begin Tuesday May 26, 2020.

Please continue to participate in our online worship as it will continue in some form well beyond our corporate return. Also included in this mailing is information about how we can stay connected virtually during this time, please reach out if you have questions about how to get plugged in to one of these resources. We would love to partner with you through prayer or help you with any other needs, please reach out to us. We do love and care for all of you!
